5-7 June, 2017

Principal Investigator of the CE4REG project dr Anna Avdiushchenko took part at the First World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF). The event gathers together the most recognised experts and decision makers in the field. 1,500 key people from more than 100 countries shared circular economy related ideas in Helsinki, Finland, on 5-7 June 2017. The meeting was organised organized by the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra and its partners Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Nordic Council of Ministers, Finland Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland.

There were discussed how the circular economy presents new and unprecedented opportunities to create wealth and well-being, as well as how it is the essential engine behind achieving the ambitious UN Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals.

Participation at the conference is going to be very contribution for the project research because there were discussed issues strongly related to research task within CE4REG project.  Among others are  macroeconomic implications of circular economy strategies and their effects on growth and jobs for economies;  required policy measures and private and public investments; role of the different stakeholder in enabling the shift to a global circular economy;  investment strategies and portfolios, and thus help reduce risks in an ever more volatile global market.

At the WCEF2017  also were presented showcases of on-going Circular Economy activities in leading Circular Cities Network around world (Helsinki, Amsterdame, New Your, Vancouver, Peterborough).

WCEF2017 host country Finland shared it’s own inspirational story as a global leader as we turn the vision of our circular economy road map into reality and deliver concrete benefits across all sectors of business and society.

Nine key messages emerged from WCEF2017. These called on public and private actors to, inter alia, mainstream the circular economy into the global economic model and its deployment in the front line of the world’s drive to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals,  combat climate change and poverty.
